Ice skating is one of the most popular winter outdoor activities in Belgrade. Romantic, fun for the entire family, or for a hangout with a group of friends, affordable, what a better way to enjoy the festive season and keep active during the cold period.
As the winter approaches, one indoor hall and several open-air ice skating rinks start opening in the city, offering free or relatively cheap skating depending on the time of day. You can bring your own skates or rent for about 3-4 €. These are the most popular ones across Belgrade:
BLES (Belgrade Ice Scene) at Nikola Pašić square
The skating rink at Nikola Pašić square is probably the smallest one, yet it’s free and offers additional attractions. It is the one closest to the central streets. It is also the first one to open and usually the last one to be closed in spring.
For those who wish to learn ice skating, instructors will be available. Visitors will have the opportunity to attend Hockey games on Wednesdays at 15h, while numerous DJ’s will ensure great music and fun.
Kalemegdan
The skating rink “Tvrđava” at the Partizan basketball courts at the fortress is much larger, and is probably the most romantic one, surrounded by the ancient walls and gates.
Ada Ciganlija
This is the largest open-air skating rink in the city, yet it’s located at the Ada Ciganlija island 5km south from downtown. Both the entrance and skate renting is free. Ice skating school is usually organized every day from 10:00 to 16:00.
Unfortunately, this year the Ada Ciganlija rink will not open due a new savings plan.
Ušće shopping mall
Another smaller rink will be open at the most popular shopping mall in Belgrade, just across Brankov bridge from downtown. The entrance and skates are available for free.
Zamak, Zemun Quay
If you’re located in Zemun or New Belgrade, you can also enjoy skating near the Danube, at the Zamak theme park on Zemun Quay.
Open from December 15 to March 15 every day from 10:00-23:00.
Skating school schedule: Saturdays and Sundays 10:00-11:00, Tuesdays and Fridays from 17:00 to 18:00.
Stari DIF
The skating rink at Stari DIF is located near the St. Sava temple and Slavija square. Entrance and rentals cost 200 dinars (2€).
Working hours: 12:00 to 21:00
Olimp Sports Center, Zvezdara
Olimp sports center is located near the Zvezdara forest, and during winter, beside ice skating, it offers indoor activities including swimming and pool recreation.
Delta City
The skating rink in front of the Delta City shopping mall has one of the busiest animation programs with special discounts for families, free cups of hot chocolate for couples, theatre on ice, hockey, disco and kindergarden on ice, among other surprises for their visitors. The entrance and skates are available for free.
Ice Hall of Hala Pionir (indoor)
The Ice Hall is the biggest skating rink in Belgrade, but also the busiest. It can sometimes get overcrowded. More info here.
